Our History
And He said unto them, "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15), and "nation" (Matthew 28:19), and joe hyde of the A street Church of Christ, along with others, endeavored to carry out the mission. They were instrumental in furthering the gospel in Oneonta by sponsoring James Cooper of Mobile, Alabama, to hold a series of gospel meetings in a tent. As a result of his proclaiming the gospel of Christ., E Street Church of Christ was organized in 1948.
The first temporary home of the church, "The Duck Inn," was a former dance hall on Washington Avenue. In June 1951, the congregation moved into its first new church building, presently known as the E Street Church of Christ, Located on E Street between Adams Avenue and Jackson Avenue West in Oneonta. Many obeyed the gospel in the new congregation. In 1956, the families of Jack and will Gillispie and Preston and Billy White became members.
Over the Years, improvements were made on the building and grounds. An additional building and lot was purchased in 1972. The building was formerly a laundromat. The new construction building that was erected in 1993 was nerged with the original building and the laundromat building, with a new worship auditorium in the middle, together making one building. The building was dedicated on February 6, 1994.
The church has continued to carry forward the gospel of Christ, doctrinally sound, and in fellowship with the Father, Son, and the Holy spirit. Our continued faith and strength are indebted to the tireless efforts of the ministers who have faithfully served the church. Each member, sisters and brothers, who has contributed to the Lord's work and diligently procured this Labor of love, has divine assurance.
We extend a special thanks to our Minister Emeritus, Timothy Alexander, and honor the memory of his wife, Carolyn Alexander. 1 Corinthians 15:58b "For as much as you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord." May the glory and honor continue be to God for His continous blessings and protection on our church.
